ARTES programme: general call for expressions of interest (EOI) in satellite communication development

Deadline: Friday, 12th April 2024

This is an open call for expressions of interest in delivering future satellite innovation under the Competitiveness and Growth call of the European Space Agency (ESA) ARTES Programme. No upper or lower limit has been set for individual projects. Projects must include an element of matched funding to be eligible under the programme. The envelope of this call is £10 million.

UK Space Agency-Axiom Space astronaut mission projects 2024/2025

Deadline: Monday, 29th April 2024

This mission is expected to see UK astronauts fly to the International Space Station (ISS) to carry out scientific research and technology demonstrations, to prioritise achieving a strategic advantage across 5 critical technologies set out in the UK Science and Technology Framework and undertake education and outreach activities designed to engage more young people in STEM and future careers in the space sector.

UK-Germany bilateral collaborative research and development: round 3

Deadline: Monday, 3rd June 2024

UK registered organisations, collaborating with at least one German SME applying under the equivalent German ZIM programme, can apply for a share of up to £4 million for collaborative projects resulting in innovative solutions in emerging technologies.

Direct Negotiation - Kick-Starts

Deadline for 2024: Friday, 5th April 2024 and Friday, 7th June 2024

A Kick-Start is a feasibility study lasting six months. A Kick-Start aims to determine whether a service is technically feasible, commercially viable and wanted by users. During a Kick-Start, teams will design the technical service architecture, engage with potential customers, improve the business plan, and establish next steps in developing the service. Kick-Starts must involve the use of at least one space asset, such as satellite communications, satellite Earth observation, and satellite navigation.

Kick-Start activities will be funded at 75%, with ESA providing up to 60,000 euros per contract.

Blue Capital from ESA

Deadline: Wednesday, 14th June 2024

This opportunity offers funding for teams who would like to develop a service related to ‘Blue Natural Capital’. Funding will be provided by the European Space Agency (ESA) for 6-month studies called ‘Kick-Starts’, which can lead to larger scale Demonstration Projects. Kick-Starts are 75% funded by ESA up to a maximum of €60K per contract. Proposed services must use satellite data or space-based technologies.
