Each month, Space South Central aims to bring together a curated list of the latest and best funding opportunities for businesses working in the space sector across the South East.

South Australian Space Collaboration and Innovation Fund

Deadline: Friday, 17th May 2024

The South Australian Space Industry Centre, in collaboration with the Defence Innovation Partnership, has launched a new grant fund to support the development of innovative South Australian space capability. Grants of up to $100,000 will be awarded to support projects that focus on proof-of-concept or delivery of space capability and have a clear commercial pathway. The lead organisation must be a South Australian based start-up or SME and include at least one international partner.

Unlocking Space for Business

Deadline: Wednesday, 22nd May 2024

The aim of the Unlocking Space for Business competition is to offer financial services and transport & logistics companies, alongside satellite data and service partners, the chance to apply for a share of up to £3.5 million, inclusive of VAT and subject to affordability, to trial new solutions that use satellite data and services to benefit their organisation.

New Innovators in Communication Networks 2024

Deadline: Wednesday, 12th June 2024

UK-registered micro and small businesses can apply for a share of up to £500,000 to develop adoptable and investable innovations within communication networks. This funding is from the Telecoms Technology Missions Fund programme.

ESA - Blue Capital

Deadline: Friday, 14th June 2024

This opportunity offers funding for teams who would like to develop a service related to ‘Blue Natural Capital’. Funding will be provided by the European Space Agency (ESA) for 6-month studies called ‘Kick-Starts’, which can lead to larger scale Demonstration Projects. Kick-Starts are 75% funded by ESA up to a maximum of €60K per contract. Proposed services must use satellite data or space-based technologies.

Commercial Applications of Space-Enabled Robotics: Transport and Logistics

Deadline: Wednesday, 26th June 2024

This Call for Proposals invites proposals for Feasibility Studies and Demonstration Projects for services that combine the use of satellite technologies and robotics for downstream services for transport and logistics.

Within the context of transport and logistics, the intention is to support the study, development and demonstration of autonomous vehicle services and precursors (including tele-operated vehicles) for commercial services in this arena, with particular focus on the most accessible markets for such solutions.

These could be in the domain of delivery services, public transportation, long-haul trucking, industrial settings, campus and controlled environments, short-sea shipping, inland waterway transport, and beyond. Autonomous services may relate to vehicles on land, air, and sea.

Innovate UK (DoIT)

Deadline: Wednesday, 17th July 2024

Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, will work with the Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT) to invest up to £5 million in innovation projects.

The aim of this competition is to fund collaborative research and development (CR&D) projects focused on industrial research. Your proposal must include at least one partner from the UK and one partner from Taiwan.
